Innovative

Johnston Elementary uses a scheduling model that allows time for students to receive daily enrichment/intervention opportunities time (RtL— Response to Learning). This schedule provides grade level teachers weekly collaboration time to closely monitor student progress and to plan lessons for student success.

Response to Intervention (RtI)

Grade level teachers, the building principal, reading specialists, and student services personnel collaborate about the effectiveness of interventions and enrichment of all students by using a wealth of academic and behavioral data. All staff members remain focused on individual student success all the time.

Building Character

Johnston staff members strive to meet the needs of all learners by addressing their individual academic, social, and emotional needs. Our ultimate goal is to prepare them for the 21st Century world they will eventually enter.

The Johnston staff teaches character education classes weekly based on behavioral data to proactively ensure a safe, respectful, and responsible school climate. Anti-bullying is a strong and constant focus of our school-wide social skills lessons.
